Malaysia–Singapore Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) Bus Services

The Malaysia–Singapore Vaccinated Travel Lane–Land (or VTL-Land) Bus Services are cross-border bus routes commencing on 29 November 2021, as part of the Malaysia – Singapore Land Vaccinated Travel Lane.

These services would ply via the Causeway, connecting Larkin Bus Terminal in Johor Bahru with Queen Street Bus Terminal and Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange in Singapore. Only 64 daily bus trips are operated, and tickets must be purchased online at least three days prior to the date of departure. More information is enclosed in the following sections.

Prerequisites

Travellers intending to use the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) must fulfil these basic prerequisites:

  1. Be a citizen, permanent resident or long-term pass holders of the country they are entering
  2. Fully vaccinated with WHO Emergency Use Authorization vaccines
  3. Have proof of vaccination
  4. Remain either in Malaysia or Singapore for the last 14 days prior to travel
  5. Have bus tickets for the journey

VTL-Land from Singapore to Malaysia

From 29 November 2021, land VTL travel from Singapore to Malaysia is open to fully-vaccinated Malaysian citizens, permanent residents or long-term pass holders.

Before their journey, travellers must:

  1. Prepare digital Singapore Vaccination HealthCerts issued via the Notarise portal with a QR code, or Proof of vaccination on the TraceTogether or HealthHub app.
  2. Register their travel at www.mysafetravel.gov.my
  3. Purchase a bus ticket from either Handal Indah or Transtar Travel
  4. Download the MySejahtera mobile app
  5. Test negative in a valid pre-departure COVID-19 antigen rapid test (ART) or polymerase chain reaction (PCR), within two calendar days before departure for Singapore.

On arrival at Larkin Bus Terminal, passengers will take an on-arrival test.

VTL-Land from Malaysia to Singapore

From 29 November 2021, land VTL travel from Malaysia to Singapore is open to fully-vaccinated Singapore citizens, permanent residents or long-term pass holders.

Before their journey, travellers must:

  1. Test negative in a valid pre-departure COVID-19 antigen rapid test (ART) or polymerase chain reaction (PCR), within two calendar days before departure for Singapore.
    [tests must be taken at a laboratory or centre that is accredited or recognised by the Malaysia Ministry of Health] Children aged two years and below in the calendar year are not required to undergo these tests.
  2. Travellers also must be fully vaccinated, and unvaccinated children aged 12 years and below must be accompanied by a vaccinated adult.
  3. All travellers are required to submit the SG Arrival Card with Electronic Health Declaration via the ICA website or through the SG Arrival Card mobile application (Google Play Store / Apple App Store).
  4. Long-term pass holders must also apply for a vaccinated travel pass on the SafeTravel website.

VTL-Land Bus Routes

Each bus trip will allow only up to 45 passengers. A total of 64 daily bus trips are offered under the first phase of the VTL-Land scheme.

Information history

According to an article in Malaysian newspaper The Star, the Air and Land VTL between Malaysia and Singapore will open on 29 November 2021.

These VTL-Land Bus Routes & their operators were mentioned in an article by Zaobao on 23 November 2021.

A dry run was conducted on 23 November 2021, which featured buses deployed from Causeway Link as well as Transtar Travel, displaying the VTL signage at Queen Street Bus Terminal & Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange respectively.
