Since the independence of Singapore in 1965, the public transport system serving the country had undergone multiple significant changes and evolved to become what it is today. In this article, we will take a walk down the memory lane and go through the major public bus and rail service changes that had occurred over the past decades since the massive bus service reorganization exercise in Year 1971.
This article covers major changes to public bus, Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and Light Rail Transit (LRT) services between 1 January 2020 and 31 December 2029 only. Overview
For the operating period between 1 January 2020 and 31 December 2029, the public transport system is expected to see a further expansion of the MRT network, as well as the construction of more bus interchanges and integrated transport hubs to cater to increasing population and travel needs in Singapore, as well as to build a car-lite society.
In rail developments, this decade will see the opening of more new MRT stations and lines, as well as extensions to existing MRT lines. They are summarized as follows:
