Bus Service 296 provides residents in the new Tampines North estate with connectivity to Tampines MRT Station, along with other amenities in the neighbourhood such as Tampines North Polyclinic and Tampines Retail Park.

This service serves the new housing estates of Tampines Greenglade, Tampines Greenglen and Tampines Greencrest at new bus stops constructed along Tampines North Drive 1 and Tampines Street 64.

In addition, this is the first public bus service within Tampines Retail Park (IKEA, Giant & Courts) via a new bus stop directly outside IKEA Tampines, which was previously only served by Tampines Retail Park shuttle bus services. Prior to the launch of Bus Service 296, nearest public bus connectivity to Tampines Retail Park was via a pair of bus stops along Tampines Avenue 10. Commuters from/to T-Space and BHCC Space along Tampines North Drive 2 also benefit with new bus stops constructed outside these buildings.
