The CDL EcoTrain, Singapore’s first Sustainability Education Hub built on an upcycled MRT train carriage, will open its doors to the public on 15 March 2025.
CDL EcoTrain
Originally announced in 2024, the CDL EcoTrain transforms a decommissioned MRT train cabin into the EcoTrain Educational Centre. This exciting project, developed in partnership with CDL Sustainability, aims to create a vibrant space dedicated to fostering a love for learning about sustainability.
Located at City Square Mall, the EcoTrain will enhance outreach efforts by the Singapore Sustainability Academy. This innovative project is being developed in collaboration with Just Keep Thinking, Singapore’s largest social media channel focused on science, nature, and sustainability.
The train carriage, a former Kawasaki Heavy Industries & Nippon Sharyo C751B train which operated on the North-South and East-West Lines, was delivered on the night of 18 September 2024. Car 2317 was delivered from Tuas West Depot, while the remaining two cars of the trainset (cars 3317 and 1317) were sent for scrap.
The EcoTrain will feature a public exhibition area with rotating eco-themed displays and a workshop space for various eco programs. Through these engaging experiences, the EcoTrain hopes to inspire curiosity and emphasize the importance of education in building a brighter, more sustainable future.
A dedicated Instagram page was set up to promote the exhibit, with the announcement that the space will open to the public on 15 March 2025.
