East West Line Track Incident (25 February 2021)

Train service on the East West Line was disrupted on the evening of 25 February 2021 as a person intruded the eastbound tunnel near Kallang and was killed.

A C751B trainset, 329/330, was seen stalled outside the tunnel before Kallang station with SCDF officers walking on the tracks. Police and SCDF vehicles were also seen at multiple MRT stations.

Train services between Bugis and Aljunied were suspended from 10pm till end of service. Free Regular Bus Boarding & Bus Bridging Services were made available between Bugis and Aljunied. Go-Ahead and SMRT activated bus captains to assist in the free bus bridging services.

Timeline of Events

  • Around 2130hrs: An incident occurred between Lavender and Kallang stations on the East-West Line towards Pasir Ris. A person was subsequently pronounced dead on the east-bound track near Kallang MRT Station.
  • Around 2135hrs: SCDF receives call for help.
  • 2140hrs: Initial social media reports of train service disruption
  • 2148hrs: SMRT issues announcement of train service disruption due to “an incident.” Bridging Bus Services activated.
